“There is no God but Allah, and Muhammad is his prophet.”
Between 624 and 628 AD, Muslims were involved in a series of battles of their existence. By now, Muhammad had too many forces and the balance of power had shifted away from the leaders of Mecca. In 630, the Muslim army marched into Mecca, taking the city to minimum casualties. His father died before he was born and was raised first by his grandfather and then by his uncle. He was from a poor but respected family of the Quraysh tribe. His family was active in Mecca politics and trade.
At that time there were many tribes in the Arabian Peninsula. Most of the tribes were polytheists, who worshiped their own panties. The city of Mecca was an important commercial and religious center of the time, home to many temples and places of worship where idols of these deities were prayed for. The most famous site was Kaaba (meaning cube in Arabic). It is believed to have been built by Abraham (a Muslim of Ibrahim) and his son Ismail. Gradually the people of Mecca turned into polytheism and idolatry. All gods are worshiped, Allah is believed to be the greatest and only one without the idol.
Muhammad was also very religious, sometimes making devotional visits to holy sites near Mecca. On one of his pilgrimages in 610 AD, he was meditating in a cave at Mount Jabal Ai-Noor. The Angel Gabriel appeared and abandoned the word of God.
“Recite in the name of your Lord who
creates, creates man from a clot! Recite for your lord is most generous….”
These words became the earliest verses of the 96th chapter (chapter) of the Quran.
Islamic tradition holds that the first to believe was his wife, Khadija, and his close friend Abu Bakr (believed by Sunni Muslims as Muhammad's successor). Increasingly, resistance increased for Muhammad and his followers, and eventually they were forced to move out of Mecca to Medina, a city 260 miles to the north in 622 AD. This event marks the beginning of the Muslim calendar. There Muhammad played an important role in ending the ongoing civil war between many tribes of the city. Muhammad settled in Medina, built his Muslim community and gradually gathered acceptance and more followers.

After the conflict with Mecca, Hazrat Muhammad Shahab took his first true Islamic pilgrimage to the city in March, 632 AD and gave his last sermon at Mount Arafat. Returning to his wife's home in Medina, he remained ill for several days. He died at the age of 62 on 8 June 632 AD and was buried in Masjid al-Masjid-Nabawi (the Prophet's Mosque), one of the first mosques built by Muhammad in Medina.
